Nice ranks among the world’s Smart Cities and a pioneer in the development of new technologies aiming at improving the lives of its inhabitants. With a strong focus on innovation and sustainable development the City is carrying out ambitious urban projects with the most stringent construction standards.
To add consistency to all the Smart city projects of the Metropole Nice Côte d’Azur, the “Smart City Centre of Excellence” or “CENTREX” has been created. It aims at developing a cross-sectoral approach in the Smart city. Smart mobility is part of the strategic project areas in which the Metropole is developing several projects jointly financed by the State, as part of the Programme d’Investissements d’Avenir. Two recent achievements deserve attention:
In December 2018, a new tramline opened to connect Nice Airport to the City Centre. Travelers and passengers will be able to zip from Nice Airport to Nice City Centre in just 10 minutes for 1,50 €. This connection brings Nice among the very few international destinations with quick and easy access to the City Centre and to the Convention Centre.
In January 2019, Renault Mobility has become the first operator to receive the carsharing label in Nice. Renault Mobility service provides the latest generation ZOE, for rent by everyone, everywhere in Nice. “This is the most important development of 100 % electric carsharing in France” underlines Philippe Buros, Renault’s Sales Director France. A mobile app will inform users about the immediate availability of the vehicles and the choice of pickup location. Users will benefit from a fleet of 57 Renault ZOE vehicles and more than 350 charging stations will be deployed by the city of Nice for this carsharing label.
